New Macross mobile game is part rail-shooter, part dating sim

Written by Factor on . Posted in Gamer

The long-touted joint venture between Namco Bandai and Japanese mobile gaming giant DeNA has finally released a game, and it bucks the usual mobile game trend by not utilizing a card game system.

Titled “Macross SP Cross de Culture,” this Japanese social game has a split personality. On one hand, there are several 3D rail shooter levels. On the other hand, it’s a dating sim. Ranka Lee is shown during the game’s trailer, but it is unknown what other Macross characters will be available for you to swoon. The graphics look to be a bit above your standard mobile gaming fare. No word about gameplay options.

While the game itself is out for Android devices (running Gingerbread or higher), it is currently restricted to Japanese users, with an iOS port in the works. Neither Namco Bandai nor DeNA have yet to announce an international release, but given both companies’ recent push for mobile social gaming stateside, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

For those of you who have a Japanese Android device, have you played this yet? For the rest of us, would you buy games like this if they were brought stateside?

Check past the break for the game’s trailer.
